As part of the corporate community relations program, Rose Paving Company, headquartered in Bridgeview, IL, has donated $10,000 to Dr. Alan Leff, principal investigator of the Airway Biology Research Group at the University of Chicago.  Alan Rose, CEO, presented a check to Dr. Leff at the Rose Paving corporate headquarters on Thursday, March 1.

The Airway Biology Research Group is the federally funded center for structured multidisciplinary collaboration of MD, and PhD investigators who are appointed in the Departments of Medicine and Pediatrics, and whose central interest is in the cellular pathophysiology of asthma and the maturational development of airway cells and tissues.  Every cent the group raises and receives is put towards studying various therapies and treatments for asthma.

“Reaching out to the surrounding community is of tremendous importance to all of us at Rose Paving.  This donation is of particular significance to me because I have suffered with asthma, and the funds will help the University of Chicago aid their patients with more research and resources,” said Alan Rose, CEO.  “Furthermore, I hope this contribution will raise awareness for asthma while also encouraging other charitable outreach programs to donate to their local medical organizations.”

In addition to this effort, Rose Paving’s community relations program contributes to or sponsors a wide-range of community endeavors throughout the year.  Read more about the program at www.rosepaving.com/community-outreach.

Green is the New Black: Sustainable Seal Coat for your Restaurant Parking Lots

Published by Karen on March 14th, 2012

This excerpt is from an article first published in Restaurant Facility Business Magazine in February/March 2012.

As any restaurateur knows, seal coating is an important part of a parking lot maintenance plan.  Seal coating fills surface voids, which delays oxidation and protects against UV rays and reduces the depth to which oil or gas can penetrate the pavement.  A sealer acts as a waterproofing agent, minimizing the rate at which water enters pavement.  Without it, water can permeate more freely resulting in freeze/thaw expansion and contraction of the pavement.

Perhaps most important, a properly sealed asphalt structure can last as much as double a similar area that is left untreated.  Considering the uncertain future cost of replacing asphalt compared to the minimal cost of seal coating, the choice to perform this preventative maintenance procedure is clearly a better return on investment.

Thankfully, due to the ever-growing green building movement, there are alternative products on the market.  Some of which may even qualify for various LEED® credits, depending on the project.  One such option involves the use of a bio-based sealer.

Bio-based sealers are soy based and contain no petroleum, making them a uniquely sustainable alternative designed specifically to maintain and preserve asphalt pavements.  When applied regularly, every three to five years, bio-based solutions yield significant advantages.  Some of these benefits include: cure time of 60-90 minutes, no tracking, cost effective, reduces moisture penetration, and it is carbon negative.  Once applied, the sealer works deep into the asphalt matrix, penetrating on average 0.75 to 1.25 inches deep.  There is also no need to restripe after application, which saves the hassle of extended parking lot down time and expensive labor.  It also helps maintain the skid resistance that deteriorates as asphalt wears down over time. No Snow? Go Pro…with Proactive Parking Lot Maintenance

Published by Karen on March 28th, 2012

Enhance your image

This winter has been atypical in many parts of the country.  Record snowfalls were predicted and instead most places experienced yo-yo temperatures and very little snowfall accumulation.  That is good news for two reasons:  you saved money on snow removal and you can afford proactive parking lot maintenance (which will further impact the bottom line!).

Allocating funds for proactive parking lot maintenance is a smart investment.  Consider this – a newly installed parking lot that costs $100,000 requires an investment of just 5 to 10 percent per year in ongoing maintenance in order to keep it in top condition and extend its lifespan.  Of course, well-maintained pavement also projects a positive image and provides a safe driving and walking surface.

There is no more snow and now it’s time to go pro…with proactive parking lot maintenance.  Consult a Rose Paving representative today – visit rosepaving.com or call (888) 773-ROSE.
