Charity & Event Recap 2012

Published by Candace on January 16th, 2013

Supporting charitable programs and reaching out to the surrounding community is of tremendous importance to all of us at Rose Paving. As a result, we contribute to, sponsor, or participate in a wide-range of community endeavors each year. As part of our corporate community relations program, we have not only donated funds, but had an overwhelming number of employees participate in events for 15 different charitable organizations in 2012.  Those charities included:

  • Ronald McDonald House, which creates, finds and supports programs that directly improve the health and well being of children.
  • The Cancer Support Center, which provides free of charge resources that help people improve their quality of life during the cancer experience.
  • Toys For Tots, organized by the U. S. Marine Corps Reserve, collects new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year, and distributes those toys as Christmas gifts to needy children in the community in which the campaign is conducted.
  • One Warm Coat, which collects coats to give to those in need, free of charge, in a variety of communities.
  • Maria Matters Breast Cancer Charity, which provides support and care packages to cancer patients.
  • Dr. Alan Leff Asthmatic Foundation/U of C Hospital: The Airway Biology Research Group raises funds to put towards studying various therapies and treatments for asthma.
  • Brookfield Zoo’s Community Tree Trim (Chicago Zoological Society): an event that brings the community together to decorate the zoo for the holiday season.
  • World Food Programme, which is the world’s largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide, and is funded entirely by voluntary donations.
  • St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, whose unique mission is to find cures for children with cancer and other life-threatening diseases through research and treatment.  And no family ever pays St. Jude for anything.

“Movember” Recap

Published by Candace on December 5th, 2012

As much as everyone in the Rose Paving family loved our fabulous “Movember” men’s moustaches, we (along with their significant others most likely) are happy to see their cleanly shaven faces once again.  For 30 wonderful days, a team of 14 Rose Paving “mo-bros,” through their actions and words, raised awareness by prompting private and public conversation around the often ignored issue of men’s health.

Movember in all its glory

This demonstration of fine moustachery was lead by our very own Marc Eisenberg:

“I heard about Movember through a friend and researched it earlier this year.  I learned that the folks at Movember raise money specifically for both prostate and testicular cancer research and awareness.  This hit home for me as I have lost both family and friends to both diseases over the years.  My colleagues welcomed the idea of growing a moustache during November and raising money for such a good cause.  As a result of participating, The Lip Pavers raised more than $6,000.00, and we plan to grow again in 2013!”

To see a larger visual chronicle of our Lip Pavers throughout the month, click here.  You can also see their progress on our Facebook page.

Thank you to everyone who participated, donated and supported Movember! Till next year!
